Customizing Windows7 Log-on screen.

Simply, we select our user account in the log-on screen. We all have seen the default log-on screen. It is a light blue image

Changing the registry.

1. Click "Start"    (fig1)
2. Type "regedit" in the search box.    (fig1)
3. Click on "regedit" from the search results    (fig2)
4. It will opens the "Registry editor" window    (fig2)
5. In there, you will see an expandable folder menu in the left side.

6. Click on the arrow head infront-of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder.    (fig3)
7. Then click on the "softwear" folder.    (fig4)
8. Then select "Microsoft" and then "Windows".    (fig4)
9. Then select "Current version" from the menu.    (fig5)
10. Then select "Authentication" After that select "LogonUI". Then "Backgrounds".

11. Then you will see "Default" value in the the registry editor window

Now we have to add a new value. To this,

12. Right click the space below the "Default" value.    (fig6)
13. Select "DWORD (32bit) Value" from the menu.    (fig6)
14. Name it as "OEMBackground"    (fig7)

15. Then Double click the newly created value and open the "Edit DWORD (32bit) Value" window.    (fig7)
16. Then change the value data as "1".    (fig7)


Making the folder to save the image.

The image we hope to use in the Log-on screen should be saved in a special folder.
1. Open "Computer"

2. Open your system drive. (Normally, this is C: Drive)
3. Open the "Windows" folder.
4. Then open the "system32" folder.
5. Then open "oobe" folder    (fig8)
6. Create a new folder as "Info".
7. Then open it.
8. Create a new folder as new folder as "backgrounds"

The image you wish to use as your Log-on Screen should be in "jpg" format.

♦ Copy your selected image to the newly created folder, "backgrounds".
♦ Rename it as "backgroundDefault".

☺ Now restart your computer and see the difference.

In any time you wish to change your screen background, select an image in "jpg" format, rename it as "backgroundDefault" and replace with the image in "backgrounds" folder.

You will see your background image in "Log-on screen, Welcome screen, Log out screen" and in the "Shut down" screen.

You can change the backgrond image to its default image by changing value of the "OEMBackground" to "0" in the registry. Then you can delete the folder named as "Info" you created inside the folder "oobe".
