Using a Web Cam as a Security Camera.

Security cameras have become more important today. In enterprises, they use security camera systems for there security. Everybody likes to have a security camera system in there homes. But it is not practicable with the cost.

Security cameras have become more important today. In enterprises, they use security camera systems for there security. Everybody likes to have a security camera system in there homes. But it is not practicable with the cost.

A web cam can be used as a security camera in a house or anywhere. To that a specific software should be downloaded and installed. It is called Vitamin D Video.

You can download it from here for. This software does not need internet connection to run.
When you download it, you will get a ".exe" file. Double click it and install it. After installing, go to
    Start ► All Programs ►Vitamin D Video
and open the software window.

Adding a Camera.
    In this software, you can add a camera that is connected to your computer (a built in web cam in a laptop,a usb camera) or a camera in a network. It is a special advantage that using an usb web cam because it can be extended with a USb Extension Cord.
Now let's add the camera.

1. Adding a  camera in a Network.
    1. Choose "Add Camera" from the "Tools" menu in the top of the Vitamin D Video window.
        Then "Camera Setup" window will open. (fig 01)

    2. Choose "Network (IP) Camera" from the drop-down menu in-front of the Camera Type.

    3. Select the Camera's Manufacturer from the drop-down menu in-front of the Manufacture. If you don't know the manufacturer, leave it as "Other"

    4. Click "Next"

    5. Then you will get "Choose Setup Options" page.
        Select "Set up Vitamin D with a network camera that is already working" and click "Next".

    6. Then another page will open. Select "Manually specify the address of a network camera"  and click "Next".

    7. Then a window as "Enter settings to allow the Vitamin D Video Application to find your camera"
        In here, you should change the settings to suite to your network.

    ☼ Protocol - Select "http" from the drop-down menu.
    ☼ IP Address - IP Address of the computer with the camera.
    ☼ Stream Path - Name of the computer with the camera.
    ☼ User Name - Login User Name of the computer with the camera.
    ☼ Password - The Password according to the given User Name.
    ☼ Verify Password - Password again.

2. Adding a built in camera or an USB camera. (fig 02)
    1. Choose "Add Camera" from the "Tools" menu in the top of the Vitamin D Video window.
        Then "Camera Setup" window will open.

    2. Choose "USB, built in,or other webcam" from the drop-down menu in-front of the Camera Type.

    3. Select the Camera's Manufacturer from the drop-down menu in-front of the Manufacture. If you don't know the manufacturer,             leave it as "Other"

    4. Click "Next"

3. After adding the camera, "Test your camera connection" window will appear. If you have correctly added the camera, the camera's image     will be showen. Then click "Next".

4. Give a Location name and click "Next".

5. Click "Finish" Now you could see the view from your camera.


Setting up the Monitor View
    Monitor view should be selected to see the view from your camera.

    View → Monitor View

Recording from the camera.
    1. Select the "Monitor View".
    2. Click on "Any object in..." button.
    3. Select "Edit Rule" (fig 03)
    4. Click on "Look for" from the menu in the left side. (fig 04, point A)

        ♣ Any object - Every movement will be recorded.
        ♣ People - Movements of people will be recorded.

    5. Click on the "That are" from the menu in the left side. (fig 04, point B)
        ♣ Anywhere - Full area of the camera will be recorded.
        ♣ Inside - A special area can be selected for recording. The points in the corners can move as you wish. A point can be            deleted by a right click menu.

Saving movements.
    1. Click on "If seen" from the menu in the left side of the "Edit rule" window.  (fig 04, point C)
    2. Click on the "Save clips" tab. Select "My computer" Click "Settings"
    3. Then you will get a "Option" page.
            ☼ For Clips and temporary video, use up to - Maximum capacity for the tempory files.
            ☼ Temporily keep all video up to - Number of days that tempory videos sholud keep.
            ☼ Move video - The folder that videos should save.
    4. Click on the  "Take actions" tab.
            ☼ Send an email - if enabled, an email will send when a movement is saved.
            ☼ Play this sound - A sound will be played when a movement is saved.

Watching the recorded videos.
    Select Search view.
    View → Search View
    You can watch the recorded videos here.
    Or you can watch the videos by openning the folder that given to save the videos.

Keeping the camera switched On.
    Keep the softwear on Moniter View.
    If the camera is off, Click the power b utton on the bottom.
